What to have ready when you call

None of this is required. You can call knowing nothing except that the house is cold or the basement is wet. But the more of this you have, the faster we can tell you what is probably going on and what kind of visit it needs.

  • What the system is actually doing. Not what you think is broken, just what you can observe. The furnace runs but blows cool air. The air conditioner is running nonstop and the house sits at 78. The kitchen sink drains slow and gurgles when the washer empties. Half the outlets in one room are dead. The exact behavior is the most useful thing you can give us.
  • How long it has been happening. Started an hour ago, or has been getting worse for three weeks. A problem that came on suddenly and a problem that crept up point at different parts. Also tell us if it comes and goes, and whether it happens at a certain time of day or only when something else is running.
  • The brand and rough age of the equipment, if you know it. The brand is usually on the front of the furnace, on the label of the outdoor condenser, or on the water heater tank. Age is often on the same data plate. A rough guess is fine. Twenty years old and eight years old lead to very different conversations about repair versus replacement.
  • Whether anything changed recently. A new thermostat, a filter swap, a breaker that tripped, a remodel, a new appliance, work another company did last month. Half of the calls we take have a recent change sitting right next to the symptom, and saying it out loud saves everyone time.
  • Your address, and whether it is a house or a condo. A condo or a two flat changes access, where the equipment lives, and sometimes who is allowed to touch what. If there is a building engineer, a shared shutoff, or a management company involved, mention it on the first call.
Skip all of it if you have to

If water is actively running where it should not be, shut off the supply if you can reach it and call. If you smell gas, get everyone out of the house first, call the gas utility from outside, then call us. Nobody needs to look up a model number in the middle of a mess.

The process

What happens after you call

No portal, no automated reply, no waiting to find out if anyone read your message.

You call

You talk to a person and describe the symptom. We ask a few questions to figure out which trade it is and how urgent it sounds. Sometimes the answer is a thing you can check yourself in two minutes, and we will tell you that.

We schedule a real window

You get a day and an arrival window, not a vague promise. If we are booked out, we say so instead of stringing you along. Call and ask how soon we can be out, and you will get a straight answer.

We diagnose and show you

We open the panel, take readings, and find the actual cause instead of guessing at a part. Then we show you what we found. If it is a cracked fitting, a failed capacitor, a clogged line, or a loose connection, you get to look at it.

You approve the price

We explain the options and what each one costs before any work starts. If a repair does not make sense on old equipment, we will say that too. Nothing gets done until you say go.

Where we work

Not an emergency

Questions that are not urgent

Call anyway. That is not a brush off, it is the fastest way to get an answer.

People hesitate to call about the small stuff. They want to know if a twelve year old furnace is worth repairing again, whether a humidifier makes sense in a drafty house, what it takes to add a circuit for a garage freezer, or why one bathroom always runs out of hot water first. That is a two minute phone conversation and it costs nothing to ask.

A form would turn that into a day of waiting for a reply that answers half the question. On the phone we can ask you what you are looking at, and you get a real answer while you are standing in front of the thing.

If you are planning ahead instead of reacting to a failure, say so when you call. Replacing a water heater or an aging furnace on your schedule is a completely different job than replacing one that quit on the coldest night of the year, and we will treat it that way.

It is the same number either way. If nobody picks up when you call, leave your name, your address, and the symptom in a message, and we will call you back.

What a visit costs

There is a $125 service charge to come out. That pays for the trip and the diagnosis, which means finding what is actually wrong and telling you what it costs to fix. It is a separate charge and is not credited toward the repair. Once you have the repair price, nothing happens until you approve it.

One call covers all four trades

Heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical. Tell us what the system is doing and we will tell you what it takes to fix it.
